10. My Love, Enlighten Me

With a rating of 8.5 out of 10 thanks to 2,093 users, this drama follows the story of Nuan Nuan (played by Eleanor Lee), a 22 year old idol. Throughout 24 episodes, we watch her group disband and her struggles since, including her encounters with sound and light engineer Han Che (played by Leon Leong). This is a modern, romantic comedy that’s available to watch in Viki, WeTV and Huace Global Fun.

9. Lovely Us

While there’s only 274 users that have rated it thus far, this drama has an 8.7 out of 10, making it one of the highest rated C-Dramas of the year. Definitely more unknown than most of the dramas on this list, this modern youth drama follows the coming-of-age stories of a group of teenagers growing up together in 2007 throughout 16 episodes. Fans of Korean dramas like the Reply series might enjoy this show. The main roles are taken up by Marcus Li, Silvery Li, Tian Xi Wei, You Hao Ran and Li Ming Yuan.

8. Cross Fire

Staring LuHan and Leo Wu, along with Cecilia Boey and Dai Lu Wa, this 36-episode drama currently has an 8.8 out of 10. An action-packed, e-sports drama, “Lu Xiao Bei and Xiao Feng transcend space and time as they chance upon each other within the same game. From a position of mutual distrust to that of camaraderie, they form their own teams, map out their tactics to help each other grow.” While this drama originally garnered a lot of attention through Luhan’s starring role, the story has made many big fans of it as a whole. If you like modern, gaming, youthful dramas and storylines, we definitely recommend adding this one to your watchlist! It’s currently available in WeTV and youhug Media.

7. Skate Into Love

This modern romantic comedy drama started off 2020 strongly, elevating the popularity of leads Steven Zhang and Janice Wu. Available in Viki and the YoYo English channel, the 40-episode drama is adapted of the same-name novel. “A shorttrack speed skating girl crosses paths with the ice hockey god of their school. Despite starting off on the wrong foot, they start on a journey to chase after their dreams.” Follow along for stories of friendship, ice-sports, youth and school-life, and of course the romance! It currently has an 8.5 rating with well over 3,000 users rating it.

6. Winter Begonia

Albeit not as popular as other entries on this list, this drama has a whopping 9.0 out of 10. This Republican era drama is adapted off of a BL novel, but it doesn’t really have much BL at all due to censorship. It’s still a captivating drama, though, with very interesting cinematography. Starring Andrew Yin and Huang Xiao Ming, it revolves around a Peking opera performer and a wealthy businessman and how they’re brought together through a love of Peking opera.

5. The Bad Kids

Another novel adaptation drama, this modern story has an 8.8 in MyDramaList. It follows three children from a coastal town who unintentionally film a murder scene, and the complications that arise. It’s available in iQiyi, though it does require a subscription. It stars Qin Hao, Dollar Rong, Shi Peng Yuan and Wang Sheng Di.

4. The Romance of Tiger and Rose

Arriving at some of the more popular entries, this romantic comedy has an 8.7 rating by almost 5,000 users. Available for free in Viki, WeTV and Tencent Video, it stars Zhao Lu Si and Ding Yu Xi. Following modern-day Chen Xiao Qin, a C-drama screenwriter, she gets transported into the pages of her own story. Xiao Qian has now become the Third Princess, Chen Qian Qian, an insignificant side character with a horrible reputation and a short lifespan. She’s determined to change her fate, but she catches the attention of both the arrogant and manipulative prince, Han Shuo, and the impossibly perfect Minister of Education, Pei Heng. 3. Eternal Love of Dream

Another novel adaptation, this historical fantasy romance drama comes after its popular parent story Eternal Love. Receiving an 8.7 by well over 3,000 users, it stars Dilraba and Vengo Gao. “Queen of Qing Qiu, Bai Feng Jiu, is the only red nine-tailed fox in the world. One day, Feng Jiu is attacked by a savage beast while seeking cultivation in the mountains and is saved by the first emperor of Heaven, Dong Hua. Grateful and feeling indebted, Feng Jiu accompanies Dong Hua to vanquish the Demon Lord.” Will the two find love, or will other factors get in the way? Recently aired Love and Redemption has a 9.0 at the moment in MyDramaList. Throughout 59 episodes, the novel adaptation is a martial arts/fantasy historical romance with Cheng Yi and Crystal Yuan as the main leads. This is a xianxia romance entangled with conspiracies from the past. The story has been praised by MyDramaList users for having a kind male lead that chases the female first, its beautiful love story, and its similarities with popular 2018 drama “Ashes of Love”.

1. Go Ahead

With a strong 9.1 rating by 1.7K users, the recently aired drama tells the story of three troubled youths who find solace in their common experiences to become the best family that they can be for each other. Praised for being relatable, this is a modern drama which features genres and topics such as youth, child abandonment, melodrama, romance, comedy, coming of age, and a kind male lead that chases the female lead. The 46-episode (or, 40, depending on the platform) drama is available at Viki and China Huace TV, starring Seven Tan Songyun, Song Weilong and Steven Zhang.
