A fan of Xiao Zhan told the students in their class of Grade 3 primary school students to record a fan support video for Xiao Zhan to post into his Weibo ‘supertopic’ to spark a topic for discussion. This issue has caused controversy, as netizens viewed such an act as one that was highly unprofessional of a teacher to do. Especially since the teacher was a civil servant serving in a public school, they felt that a teacher’s duties was first and foremost to educate students instead of influencing them to do whatever they please.
In reponse, Xiao Zhan issued a weibo post regarding the matter:
I hope everyone puts their studies, work, and life as priorities ahead of chasing their idols. Study hard and work hard. Please perform your responsibilities and obligations, observe professional standards and the baseline protocol for whatever your industry requires. I don’t need the fan support.”
Following Xiao Zhan’s post, his studio forwarded the message, adding: “I hope you will put your work and life first.”
Yang Zi, Xiao Zhan’s co-star for his upcoming drama, Oath of Love has also shown support for his statement
Yangzi, who will co-starring alongside XiaoZhan in their upcoming drama, “Oath Of Love” also showed her support for Xiao Zhan’s statement by liking his status shortly after it was posted yesterday.
Yang Zi likes Xiao Zhan’s Weibo post asking for fans to prioritize their real life responsibilities
What do you think of the incident? Some fans on twitter have expressed their surprise that Xiao Zhan himself claimed that he “does not need fan support”. Such a statement would be bold for celebrities to make, since many survive on massive engagement and support for them by their fans.
It appears that Xiao Zhan seems to prioritise the roles and responsibilities of his fans in real life than that of expressing their support for him, causing netizens to applaud for his selfless cause.
